Hotel Inna Garuda has a long history with the change of name that occurred up to six times: Grand Hotel De Djokdja, Hotel Asahi, Hotel Merdeka, Hotel Garuda, Natour Garuda, and now Inna Garuda.

1908 - 1942: Grand Hotel De Djokdja or "Yogyakarta Hotel"
Built by the Dutch Government, the hotel is operational in 1911 and holds only the Dutch army.

1942 - 1945: Hotel Asahi
In 1942, Japan changed the name of the hotel into Hotel Asahi.

1945 - 1950: Hotel Merdeka
After the independence of Indonesia, Asahi hotel was taken over by the people and was renamed the Hotel Merdeka.

1950 - 1982: Hotel Garuda
The Indonesian government changed the name hotels in the Free to Hotel Garuda in 1950 and in 1975 the government entrust the PT. Natour to run the hotel.

1982 - 2001: Hotel Natour Garuda
In 1982, PT. Natour Garuda Hotel renovate and develop the three-star hotel. In 1987 Hotel Natour Garuda is officially declared by the government through the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications as a three star hotel.

2001 - Now: Hotel Inna Garuda
In March 2001, PT. Natour joined with PT. Hotel Indonesia, the hotel's name was changed to Hotel Inna Garuda.
